May Records “Hits” CD
by Marcie Porter
During this time of year when giving is a priority, the president of Banco
de Comercio, Jorge Ibarra, is honoring well-known Guatemalan singer Herman May
by having May record a CD with some of the most memorable songs ever written.
Ibarra happened to hear May perform one evening at a hotel and was so impressed
that he began looking for a way to promote the Guatemalan talent. Ibarra’s
answer was to have May record unforgettable hits of all time, from Elvis Presley
to Frank Sinatra.
May began his career at age 15 when he and a friend sang together for fun. Little
by little, the fun nudged him into more serious work. By the time he arrived
at San Carlos University, May was singing with two groups and slowly entering
the professional world, even receiving invitations to participate in international
competition. His talent earned him a number of awards, most notably at the OTI
(Organization of International Television) Festival in Argentina and Chile.
May now sings on many commercials, at parties with the Bob Porter Band in Guatemala,
the Paco Gatsby Band in the United States and at various private events.
His latest CD will be released during the Christmas season, in time to let bank
clients have a very merry musical Christmas. m
