At least 40 musicians are expected to
perform at the inaugural Jamtigua
all-day musical jam fest Sunday, May 8 at
a secluded private farm just outside La Antigua
Guatemala.
IN TUNE: Dan Baker and event organizer
Javier Burga prepare for Jamtigua.

Rock, jazz, reggae, blues and ethnic /
tribal music are among genres to be represented
during the performances on a massive
stage in the first jam session of its kind
in or around La Antigua, said event organizer
Javier Burga. Visual and performing
artists, and activities for the whole family,
are also on the Jamtigua program.
Jamtigua is a result of Burga´s vision to
fill a need in the creative community. “In
Antigua, we have a community of talented
musicians but few facilities for them to get
together and express themselves musically.
I just wanted to see what would happen if
I put a big stage in a beautiful setting and
invited musicians from all around. It will
be magical.”
The musicians, including professionals
and amateurs chosen by audition from
throughout Guatemala and neighboring
countries, will be arranged into eight to 10
groups, which will perform from 10 a.m. to
6 p.m. While enjoying the music, Jamtigua
patrons also can purchase a variety of food
and beverages.
Admission of Q50 includes shuttle
transportation to and from the event. Parking
is available off site at INVAL (Km 2
Carretera a Santa María de Jesús in La Antigua)
for Q10. Tickets may be purchased
in advance at Perú Café (4a Av. Norte #7)
or Café No Se (1a Av. Sur #11-C) in La Antigua
or on the day of the show at the gate.
Shuttles will begin at 9:30 a.m. from Café
No Se and the parking area at INVAL and
will depart every half hour.
