Dance Group will Cast its Spell
by Marcie Porter
Choreographer Freddy Corado has been dancing for years, but
he didn’t learn how to move his feet from dance classes — he learned
by watching videos. It just came naturally.
Next he began giving dance classes, and there he discovered the talented Cristina
España, who soon became his partner. Now they dance together to all Latin
rhythms, salsa, stomps, riverdance, plus tap callejero. They have performed
in the IGA, the Club Italiano and various discos, always showing people what
a group of talented dancers can do.

It all came together when Freddy formed the “National Guatemalan Dance
Group,” made up of six dancers and four musicians, all Guatemalans: Cristina
España, Jacki Machon, Camilo Urcuyo, Raul Baiton, Bonnie Hurtao, plus
the leader, Freddy. Add to that ballet dancer Vickie Alvarez and you have a
great presentation — worth seeing. The entire group will be performing
at IGA in late November and December, with an intriguing story that goes like
this:
A witch named Denebola hopes to win over two men, Andres, boyfriend of Esmeralda,
and Antonio, boyfriend of Luna, by casting a spell and interchanging them. But
her wrath and limited knowledge of the force of evil result in confusion. To
her surprise, her spell interchanges Antonio and Esmeralda instead.
You’ll have to go to the theater to find out what happens next. Shows
will be at IGA November 28-30 and December 12-15, all beginning at 8:00 p.m.
except Sundays, when they begin at 5:00 p.m. •
